Timothy Dodson has joined the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program as Staff Archeologist and Section 106 Reviewer, a position in which he will oversee the agency’s Review and Compliance program. “Tim’s experience and expertise will be a tremendous asset to our department,” said Stacy Hurst, director of the Department of Arkansas Heritage. “Our constituents will be well-served by Tim, as he guides them through an often complicated process.”

Dodson has more than nine years’ experience in both terrestrial and maritime excavation, research and cultural resource management. He earned his B.A. in biology from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and his M.A. in maritime archaeology from the University of Southampton in Great Britain. He has worked on numerous projects throughout North America, Europe and the Middle East for both private and government entities.

Dodson has been involved or in charge of more than 150 surveys for identifying cultural resources in North Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, South Dakota, Colorado and Virginia. He has written or co-authored more than 80 reports on surveys, testing and mitigation of cultural resources for the Section 106 process and has presented his research at several professional conferences and peer- reviewed journals.

The AHPP is the Department of Arkansas Heritage agency responsible for identifying, evaluating, registering and preserving the state’s cultural resources. Other agencies are the Arkansas Arts Council, the Delta Cultural Center in Helena, the Old State House Museum, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, the Historic Arkansas Museum and the Arkansas State Archives.
