Fall Cemetery Workshop: October 25-26, in Carrollton

The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program (AHPP) is pleased to announce the Fall Cemetery Preservation Workshop will be held on October 25-26, in Carrollton, Arkansas.

The lecture on October 25 will take place at the Yell Masonic Lodge at 6 p.m. AHPP's Cemetery Preservation expert Holly Hope along with Jonathan Appell of Atlas Preservation, Inc, will present the program that teaches volunteers about proper materials for hands-on cleaning and repair of historic and modern gravestones.

On October 26 attendees will put what they learned in Appell’s lecture to work at Carrollton Cemetery. Directions to the cemetery are from U.S. Highway 62 in Alpena, turn south on U.S. Highway 412. Proceed approximately 2.6 miles to Carroll CR 9122. Turn west to Yell Masonic Lodge which is located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 412 and Carroll County Road 9122. The cemetery is adjacent to the lodge.

The Saturday workshop itinerary includes:
9 a.m.- introductions and workshop overview; cleaning, leveling, and basic repairs
Noon- lunch on grounds
1 p.m.- continuing with leveling, cleaning, and basic repairs
4 p.m.- any questions

The AHPP is the Arkansas Heritage division responsible for identifying, evaluating, registering and preserving the state’s cultural resources. Other divisions are the Arkansas Arts Council, the Delta Cultural Center in Helena, the Old State House Museum, the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, the Historic Arkansas Museum and the Arkansas State Archives.
