Jacob Wolf House Spring 2020 Events

Arkansas Historic Preservation Program - Wednesday, February 05, 2020

Between March 21 and June 25 the Jacob Wolf House will host eight different events ranging from candle making and Dutch oven demonstrations, to children's camps and a Civil War weekend. The programs will all be free of charge and kid friendly.

The springtime event calendar is as follows:

March 21: Dutch Oven Cooking Class

●April 18: Kids Frontier Games (Kids ages 7-14)

●April 25: Candle Making Class

●May 2: Dutch Oven Cooking Class

●May 15-16: Pioneer Days

●May 30: Candle Making

●June 13: Civil War Weekend

●June 23-25: Kids Frontier Camp (Kids ages 7-12)

The Jacob Wolf House is the oldest public structure in the state and was constructed in 1829. It served as the first permanent courthouse for Izard County in the Arkansas Territory. The National Park Service states that the structure is the sole surviving example of historic integrity constructed for a civic purpose. Many early settlers who were passing through would set up camp at the house to practice their trades and favorite pastimes, which inspired the events for the springtime calendar.

The Jacob Wolf House sits atop a hill in Norfork overlooking the juncture of the White and North Fork Rivers. The home has been many things including a landmark along the river, a center of trade and a seat of justice. It has also served as a refuge for many of the early pioneers who settled in the highlands of north Arkansas.

Updates about the events and more information on the Jacob Wolf House can be found on our Facebook page or right here or our website event calendar.
