Main Street Arkansas Awards Honor Downtown Achievements

Arkansas Historic Preservation Program - Thursday, January 18, 2018

Main Street Arkansas and Arkansas Downtown Network programs in 11 Arkansas counties have been honored with Main Street Arkansas Awards recognizing outstanding work in downtown revitalization. Main Street Arkansas is a program area of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program.

Winners of Main Street Arkansas Awards are:

* Best Public-Private Partnership Award: MOR Media and Main Street Paragould

* Outstanding Marketing Effort Award: Inside Out Facebook Live Show and Main Street Eureka Springs

* Outstanding Community Education Campaign Award: Main Street History Awards and Main Street Helena

* Best Façade Renovation Award: The Crossing, Paragould

* Best Façade Restoration Award: Rialto Theater, Searcy

* Best Adaptive Re-Use/Infill Project Award: The Root Café, SoMa in Little Rock

* Best Downtown Public Improvement Award: Searcy Downtown Beautification Project and Main Street Searcy

* Best Visual Merchandising Project Award: Main Street Helena’s Historic Window Advertisements

* Best New Special Event Award: Downtown Little Rock Partnership’s Barkus on Main Street

* Best Downtown Marketing Campaign Award: Main Street Eureka Springs’ EurekaSpringsDowntown.com

* Best Image/Branding Campaign Award: Woof & Wander in downtown Rogers

* Best Downtown Heritage Tourism Project Award: Main Street Helena’s Helena Steamboats Project

* Best Downtown Cultural Project Award: Trail of Tears Memorial in downtown Ozark

* Best Downtown Retail Award: Dog Ear Books in downtown Russellville

* Best New Downtown Restaurant Award: Chow at 118 in downtown Paragould

* Best Economic Impact Project Award: Ozark Beer Company in downtown Rogers

* Outstanding Main Street Merchant Award: Melissa Turpin and Dana Smith of Honeycomb Kitchen Shop in downtown Rogers

* Best Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Project Award: Old Bank Sports Bar and Grill in downtown Russellville

* Main Street Hero Award: Dee Bright of Main Street Eureka Springs

* Outstanding Executive Director Award: Gina Jarrett of Main Street Paragould.

Winners of Arkansas Downtown Network Awards were:

* Best Downtown Improvement Project Award: 64:6 Downtown Fort Smith for the Propelling Downtown Forward plan

* Best Downtown Promotion Award: Pine Bluff Downtown Development for Pop Up in the Bluff

* Best Downtown Event Award: Main Street Morrilton for Munchin’ on Main Street.

The Main Street Arkansas and Arkansas Downtown Network awards are presented biannually to recognize outstanding achievements by individuals, organizations and communities in helping to revitalize their downtown areas. The Main Street Arkansas Advisory Board selects the winners.

Main Street Arkansas provides technical assistance and design services to help create economic development in the state’s downtown areas. The Main Street approach to downtown revitalization focuses on four areas: design, economic restructuring, organization and promotion.

Cities currently involved in Main Street Arkansas are Batesville, Blytheville, Conway, Dumas, El Dorado, Eureka Springs, Helena-West Helena, Jonesboro, Downtown Little Rock Partnership, Little Rock’s South Main Street (SoMa), Osceola, Ozark, Paragould, Rogers, Russellville, Searcy, Siloam Springs, Texarkana and West Memphis. Members of Main Street’s Arkansas Downtown Network are Hardy, Pine Bluff, Heber Springs, Fort Smith, Morrilton, Rector, Monticello, Arkadelphia, Clarksville, Warren, Wynne, Forrest City, Malvern, Pocahontas, Newport and Paris. Other sponsors of the Main Street Arkansas program are Preserve Arkansas and the Arkansas Economic Development Commission. The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program is the division of the Department of Arkansas Heritage responsible for the identification, evaluation, registration and preservation of the state’s cultural resources. Other agencies in the department are the Arkansas Arts Council, the Delta Cultural Center in Helena, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, the Old State House Museum, the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, the Historic Arkansas Museum and the Arkansas State Archives.
