Dumas
1912 Merchant and Farmers Bank Dumas Municipal Complex
Main Street Dumas is located in the 1912 Merchant and Farmers Bank building designed by Arkansas architect Charles L. Thompson. The construction of the five million dollar municipal building located within the historic commercial district represents the continued investment in downtown Dumas.

El Dorado

These photos, taken from the corner of Washington and Main Street in El Dorado, depicts an attempt at urban renewal that included closing off vehicular access to the courthouse square. What resulted was a downtown void of vehicles as well as pedestrians.

Today, barricades and slipcovers have been removed, landscaping has been added and buildings have been rehabilitated. The result is a bustling square.



Harrison
Crooked Creek had become an eyesore in the last decade.AHPPCrooked Creek was transformed into Lake Harrison.

Crooked Creek is shown above before the development of Lake Harrison. The creek, just south of the Harrison square, helped shape the downtown district but had become an eyesore in the last decade.

Thanks to a vision, hard work, and funding from the Corps of Engineers and the City of Harrison, Crooked Creek was transformed into Lake Harrison, which is a positive entry to the downtown.



Helena
Casqui's Restaurant was in business in downtown Helena for several years.AHPPPasquale's Tamales purchased and rehabilitated the space.

The final site for the post office was along River Street facing the Arkansas River. The depot, housing the history museum and a proposed community center building rehabilitation project is nearby.

The new postal facility keeps community traffic downtown and adds to the development of the east end of downtown as a destination.



Paragould
Greene County Courthouse
The Greene County Courthouse, built in 1888, was saved from demolition by the Greene County Courthouse Preservation Society. The building will house the Paragould/Greene County Chamber of Commerce. Local contributions, grants from the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program and several other sources are funding the rehabilitation project.


Rogers
Harris Baking Company vacated four buildings.AHPPThe buildings were rehabilitated to First Street Plaza.
Harris Baking Company vacated four buildings downtown, top photo. Main Street Rogers used a Preservation Services Fund grant for an adaptive reuse study and a local architect developed the project. The second photo shows the buildings rehabilitated to First Street Plaza, a retail complex.


Russellville

The Frame Shop on West "C" Street is a good example of a business relocating to downtown. The energetic owners applied for and received a Main Street Arkansas Model Business Grant. In addition to funding, the grant allowed them to work with professional designers to rehabilitate the exterior and interior and the Main Street business consultant to improve the business operation.


West Memphis

The streetscape project in West Memphis shows just how dramatic landscaping can be. The improved streets lend to a comfortable feeling and a greater sense of safety. The project, spearheaded by the City of West Memphis and Main Street West Memphis, has transformed seven downtown blocks and with a recent grant, will extend the streetscape three additional blocks.
